Nowadays, child-rearing is becoming more of a choice than an obligation. All around us, people are making the choice not to become parents. It seems that parenthood isn"t en vogue anymore. Maybe, I"m generalizing a bit but choosing parenthood is sure not as common as it used to be. Depending upon who you talk to, it can seem as if the "cons" outweigh the "pros." What reasons would a person have for choosing child-rearing? After listing to these friends, I began to wonder that myself.

Honestly, I know why I decided to become a parent. For me, it wasn"t a choice as much as a surprise. It sure sounds strange in this day and age, but here"s a little background. As the oldest of five children in a Latin family, I had parental responsibilities from the time I was very young. I never envisioned myself as the mothering type.
