Why I Don't Regret Getting a Tattoo

Summary:
Everyone wants to know why I don't think I'll regret my tattoos when I get older. The reason is simple- I waited for them to come to me.
Details or Sample:
The question I am asked most often when someone finds out I have a tattoo is "Don't you think you will regret that when you are older?" Time and again, I find myself drawing in a huge sigh and then diving into a long diatribe about why, no, I will not regret my choice to put ink on my body.

The answer is simple. I did not make the decision to have the pieces (three in all) put on me lightly. The very first one was 18 years in the deciding, in fact. I had respect enough for my parent's viewpoints (and the fact that I lived with them rent-free) not to go after any ink until I was on my own. Once I had that first apartment, though, it could not happen soon enough. I had my boyfriend (who eventually became my first husband) draw up the piece and take me to his artist. Eight hours later and my dream tattoo of a wolf looking over an Indian princess' shoulder was complete. Who knew $300 could be so well spent?

The second tattoo marked a journey up North with some friends, a weekend I will never forget. In keeping with my wolf theme, I had a black wolf inked on my right shoulder blade. My friends had similar pieces done and though I have lost contact with them now, the memories of those crazy times are forever mine to reflect on and recall, just by looking in the mirror.

My third and last piece is probably my absolute favorite. It rounded out the trilogy of work I always wanted done and I feel it is the best piece on me. I had a howling red wolf baying at the moon put on my left shoulder blade with a significant nickname etched underneath it. This information is important to me only and still makes me smile every time I catch it in the mirror.
