Shortly before my sixth birthday I was whisked away to a new state and a whole new life. We moved into a new house, started up at a new school and got a new father all in about a weeks time.
My mother remarried on top of Flag Staff Mountain in Boulder Colorado. It was a small ceremony with only family a few friend of my new grandparents. We had not had time to really get to know anyone in the few days since we had settled in to the new house.
It was a beautiful October day. You could not have asked for better weather. I was shy and acted much like an almost six year acts. Pictures of me sticking my tongue out and being bratty fill the photo album.
My sister and I walked my mother down the isle as we joined this man we had known for a few months to create a new family. He then became our father, as we only refer to him as our stepfather when the need to avoid confusion is there. He has yet to ever act like anything less than a loving father and has very much earned the respect of a parent.
