The Pros and Cons of Laptop Learning

Laptops can be very beneficial when aiding in learning. That is why some colleges and universities have decided to start implementing "laptop learning" courses. Now by this, I do not mean learning how to use a laptop. Iīm talking about their courses being modified in a way to add laptops into the daily lives of their students.

These mobile learning programs, as some institutions have dubbed them, allow the students to work from virtually any place with an internet connection. They claim they are an advantage over the more traditional ways of learning and bring the student"s education into the 21 century.

Now obviously there are some major benefits to the idea, but unfortunately, this comes at the expense of some downfalls. Before entering into one of these laptop programs you should weigh both the pros and the cons of both sides.

Letīs start with the benefits.

Mobile learning allows students and teachers an easy way to connect with one another, via the internet to aid in such things as assignment help and general content questions. So long as the teacher responds in a decent amount of time, this can be very helpful. Students are also able to connect with one another when the need arises.

Teachers can also post the course notes and assignments online for the students to access anytime they are connected to the internet. Since mobile learning programs rely on internet connectivity, this shouldnīt be a problem, because the campus should be wired appropriately to allow internet access both inside and outside of the classrooms.

... skipping ahead ...

Of course there´s always a bad side to every kind of learning. Weīll discuss this aspect of it now.

The most prevalent problem Iīve seen when it comes to mobile learning programs is the way people find other things to do with their time than learn. Granted all your free time on the machine isnīt going to be spent studying and finishing assignments, but it"s very hard to stick to your schedule when there are so many other things you´d rather be doing right at your fingertips.
