This contrast is caused by a turf war between frigid winter air masses, and the first arrival of warmer temperatures from the Gulf of Mexico. The by-product of this struggle between winter and spring comes in the form of wild weather. A week of weather in March can bring swirling winds, searing heat, and blinding blizzards. These constant changes are also the sign of a more gradual change that will move temperatures up toward the warmth of summer.
