For over 30 years, swimmers have been afraid to step foot in the ocean, and even the local public pool thanks to the movie Jaws. Although this movie about a shark that terrorizes swimmers in a small New England town is fictional, it is based on actual events. In 1916, a rogue shark attacked and killed swimmers along the New Jersey coastline and even terrorized residents of an estuary 9 miles inland from the ocean.
