Indignation has been likened to Salinger’s Cather in the Rye, but if anything, it is more complex and realistic. It may not be seen as such by some, since time has moved on, and its similar subject matter is not quite as revolutionary as it was in Holden Caulfield’s day. Themes common to many Philip Roth books run through this one too. That could make it less engaging; in fact, it does the opposite.
