PUBLISHING: CAREER FOUNDATION

I started my career in publishing in New York City in 1987, where I was employed by one of the largest legal publishers in the world for almost a decade (Matthew Bender, which was eventually bought by LexisNexis).

PARTNER: EDITORIAL STAFFING & OUTSOURCE AGENCY

In the fall of 1997, I left this job for good to run Inkwell Editorial full time, a firm I'd started the year before with a partner. Inkwell Editorial was an editorial staffing and outsource agency. I ran this company from 1996-2004. Clients included noted publishing giants like Random House, McGraw-Hill and Pearson Publishing.

Inkwell Editorial closed its brick-and-mortar doors in 2004. It was retooled as an online information portal for editorial professionals (primarily freelance writers) and has become one of the leading sites on the web in this niche.

TEACHING / EDITORIAL COURSE DEVELOPMENT

When I operated Inkwell Editorial, I developed and co-taught a Chicago-style, copy-editing course, which was attended by individuals and Fortune 500 executives alike. I also created and taught a web development/marketing course at Borough of Manhattan Community College (NYC).

In 2009, I developed and currently teach an online, SEO copywriter training course.

FREELANCE WRITER

I've been a freelance writer and editor since 1993; full-time since 2007.

SEO CONTENT WRITING

In 2007, I noticed the intensifying need for search engine-optimized (SEO) content. Hence, I added SEO copywriting to my list of freelance writing services. This niche of my freelance writing business grew so quickly that I started to specialize in it.

As an online content specialist, I've written several training guides on SEO writing that teach others how to write this kind of copy, and start their own freelance writing careers.

EDUCATION

I have an AA in English, a BA in Sociology and completed one year of study towards an MA in Criminal Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.
