Elizabeth White is a writer and a woodblock print artist. She earned her BA from the University of Texas in Plan II Honors and a Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry from Texas State University. Shakespeare´s work was the perfect expression of the Renaissance zeitgeist. He allowed his characters to grapple, to delve into the subtleties and complexities of human experience. Up until then actors were cogs in the Middle Ages´ socioeconomic and religious wheel, as were the people watching them. Why Shakespeare speaks to us today is the Renaissance formed our consciousness, for we are now not about "doing what we´re told." Rather, we´re dedicated to discovering truth on our own terms.
